e-Foodtech Future – Fish need to be considered as an important source of nutrition for the body. The habit of consuming fish, whether we realize it or not, has a good effect on health. The American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association even recommend including fish in the diet at least 2 times a week.
In addition to containing protein, vitamins, and minerals, fish also contains omega 3 fatty acids which are good for the body. Omega 3 fatty acids, including DHA and EPA, have the effect of reducing inflammation in the body. Because of these effects, this compound is considered to reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease. In addition, omega 3 also plays a role in preventing the onset of diseases that are also related to inflammation, namely Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.
Besides being able to lower cholesterol, omega 3 can also overcome the burden of people with asthma, rheumatism, skin diseases, complications of diabetes, and breast cancer. The growth of human brain cells also depends on adequate levels of omega 3 from the baby in the womb to toddlers. When enough omega 3 is available, the child will grow with maximum intelligence potential, for that reason, since pregnant women need to consume fish in sufficient quantities until the baby they are carrying is born.
Marine fish contain lots of omega 3 such as tuna, meckerel, and sardines. Other fish also contain omega 3, but in smaller amounts. However, the fish is still recommended to be consumed because it is a source of protein with low calories. Mercury contamination in marine fish is very high, therefore to keep meeting the needs of omega 3, the recommendation to consume omega 3 supplements such as fish oil is very necessary for children.
Kavadya Syska, Coordinator of Food Technology Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Nahdlatul Ulama Purwokerto said that so that the nutritional content of fish is not damaged, the processing and presentation methods must really be considered. The best way to cook fish is by grilling, grilling, or steaming it.
